Many people who require ABA therapy struggle with generalizing skills. This means they may learn a skill in one setting (clinic / school etc.) but struggle to apply it in the natural setting (home / grocery store etc.). With The Kehlenbeck Center, therapy can be provided in the setting where the skill is naturally going to be used. We also teach YOU, the caregiver, so that you can help by applying techniques wherever and whenever they are needed.
There are so many reasons why The Kehlenbeck Center sees caregiver training as the MOST important part of therapy. Not only does it help when a client is struggling to generalize (perform a skill previously learned to a new setting), but it makes therapy short term. When you, the caregiver, have the skills to teach using ABA, you can increase your independence as well as theirs. Whether the client is 3 years old or 53 years old, these methods can be effective for a lifetime.
The Kehlenbeck Center supports clients by providing instruction (based on the principles of ABA) to decrease challenging behavior and increase the quality of life for each and every individual such that they can reach their personal potential.
We promise to see you as a person which means we will always acknowledge your feelings, personality and preferences. We will stand with you through challenging times, and we will celebrate with you when you succeed. And most importantly, you can count on us to be there when and where you need us.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a behavioral therapy which, in its most simple form, analyzes the function of a given behavior and then uses reinforcement to increase or decrease the frequency, intensity, or duration of the behavior, or to change the behavior into one that is more socially acceptable.
ABA breaks down tasks into small steps and reinforces the approximation of each step until the desired outcome is obtained.
ABA is provided by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) who only use research based interventions to treat clients and work under a strict code of ethics.
